“I” and “O” – oh no!

It is a beautiful Sunday here in America’s Finest City of San Diego. I wish that the weather was better in Augusta Georgia for the Masters Tournament this weekend. Hail the size of golfballs in the Southeast?

Bryson DeChambeau is a ReebokTM athlete so our son (employed by Reebok) is definitely rooting for Bryson’s come-from-behind victory.

Today’s post doesn’t directly relate to golf’s good walks spoiled.

Parenthetically, we lost the author of that PGA story, John Feinstein, earlier this year (March 2025):

Yet this post does relate to Masters – as in those of us who are not Juniors.

Let’s consider what I call the capital “I” and capital “O” Nation.

Capital offenses

What does “I & O” stand for? That capital I stands for inflammation and the capital O stands for oxidation.

I acknowledge that the buzzphrase “Inflammation Nation” is the title of at least 2 health and wellness books. Those authorship efforts are laudatory if people take action!

As cited in The Great Cholesterol Myth by Bowden and Sinatra, Inflammation & Oxidation processes are two of the most “vicious processes” in our human bodies.

Please consider these two rogue undertakings as processed root causes of many maladies of slothful and gluttonous Americans. If we don’t get our arms around this “sick care” problem, undertakers will have a huge backlog!

I am now writing a book called Burden? or Banish! that shares the HOW we can get around this terrible Public Health crisis that is triggered by original sins of sloth and gluttony.

With inflammation as a byproduct of too much sugar ingested and too little insulin, we face a ginormous and growing crisis that our kids and grandkids cannot fund adequately.

Generation of oxidative free radical or ROS compounds in our bodies do strange things – like worsening coronary artery calcification. Yup – sadly like this:

. What are main causes of this oxidation (or rusting) process in our bodies?

  1. Excessive exercise or physical/mental stress
  2. Environmental toxins that overtask our livers
  3. Too much sunlight as ultraviolet radiation
  4. Smoking.

This image depicts what happens when we get “radicalized” by one or more of these “vicious” oxidative reactions:

Doctor, Doctor

If I was an integrated medicine provider, I would prescribe these life-saving and Healthitude-promoting action steps for those in my care:

  1. Eat more Vitamin “P”(lant) – daily! Essential Vitamins and micro-nutrients in colorful vegetables and fruits can stave off both “I” & “O”.
  2. Do not smoke, get a bad Sunburn, or Stress about matters that you cannot control.
  3. Exercise in a “right” zone between Benefit and Toxicity effects to create “good” inflammation to restore and rebuild tissue, without enabling chronic inflammation.
    • “Right” zones can be estimated in a Dose – Response table or graph, then followed in order to thrive and strive into your 90s:
