Transitions, Ch-Ch-Ch-Changin

Yesterday was a fine day to mark the end of the tenth month of our calendar year 2025.

Here comes the long holiday season when days are shorter in our Northern Hemisphere.  And, when most Americans tend to gain  a few pounds that they never manage to shed.

I just had my semi-annual consultation with a fine cardiologist who is guiding me to avoid heart and stroke incidents.  I appreciate his counsel!

An older man jogging in a park on a sunny day, wearing a blue athletic shirt and shorts, holding a water bottle, with a small table of oranges in the background.

Would you care to guess when he has me scheduled for a next detailed metabolic and lipid lab test?  Rightmidway through the Holiday period as a potential worst case time for measurements and wakeup calls.

  •  It is my tactical mission to maintain my metabolic and lipid benchmarks. We’ll know if a few months how successful my actions are for stayin’ alive, as the Bee Gees lyrics went.

Time Change – Oy!

Tonight marks yet another chance for me to vent about the silliness of “saving” and “standard” time changes.  Estupido!  And unhealthy too as I’ve penned in the past.

Beisbol

We have a World Series game 7 tonight to start our calendar month #11.

I marvel that the lone Canadian team for America’s past time is a 50-50 prospect to prevail over the LA  Dodgers.  As a San Diego resident, I dislike the former Brooklyn team with its mega-$ roster…Rally caps tonight for the Toronto Blue Jays!

And, as National Hockey League games are underway – I marvel that Canadian teams can’t quite get to hoist the venerable Stanley Cup… Professional sports can be strange – yes?

We also have a pre-full moon and a distant planet sharing my nighttime field of view of heavenly bodies.

And, I got back in the saddle for a Turbo trainer spin to commemorate my participation in October’s Naval Academy’s Gulf to Goat charity ride.

Stamininety

I had just an hour of conversational spinning back in a bike saddle. My git back goal?

  • To reboot the low intensity volume training that is truly the foundation of what keeps us alive – for the better and for ~ 7 to 12 years longer.

I will next document my lessons learned for my first-ever multi-day ride.

  • I learned much about Southeastern road kill, the Okefenokee swamp, riding into incessant headwinds, and dealing with lower limb edema.  I also learned how friendships – new and old – can be life enhancing. Hold that thought as your calendar years advance.

Also on my agenda for your November Fitgram is a practical check-list for self-scanning. As you may know from my prior writings, your Sense and Respond capacity is a key tool to assess your Healthitude, and to adjust as merited to continue your Dolce Vita.

Stay well past forty,

Koach Dave
